A new approach to sustainable growth.
This structuring project for the parish of Lousa, municipality of Loures, lays the foundation for the implementation of a new urban hub at Quinta da Freixeira, representing an investment of over 30M€.
Despite its eminently agricultural origin in the first half of the 18th century, Quinta da Freixeira evolved into an important industrial complex during the 20th century, with a decisive role in the development of the town of Lousa.
The original house of the Quinta was once used by King D. João V whenever he visited the construction site of Mafra Monastery, a construction he ordered in 1717. This beautiful house is nowadays a main visiting site in Lousa and one of the main areas to be preserved in this intervention.
"We want to establish a fair and inclusive community at Quinta da Freixeira by offering a vibrant, safe and friendly urban environment, while the proximity to nature guarantees the well-being and a sense of freedom of its inhabitants."
An international reference project
11.000m2 housing area spread over 45 houses and 38 apartments;
7.600m2 for commerce, services, technology and catering;
Senior residence with capacity for 120 residents;
Social healthcare center;
Creation of ca. 200 jobs;
Development of a network of community spaces, vegetable gardens, sports and playgrounds;
Creation of pedestrian pathways to allow a close contact with nature;
Commitment to reducing energy consumption, favoring low energy consumption solutions and the use of alternative energies, guaranteeing a “net zero energy” performance.
An innovative vision contributes to the use of public spaces, where the past intersects with the present.
“The aim of this proposal is to create a proximity to nature without losing the relationship with the advantages of an urban centrality. It should offer different typologies and larger spaces for leisure and recreation, and seek to establish new dynamics for the town based on its industrial heritage.”
Improving quality of life at neighborhood level.
Resort to strategies to make this proposal sustainable from a social, economic, water and environmental point of view. By promoting quality of life on a neighborhood scale, Quinta da Freixeira should be able to attract the attention of residents, workers and visitors, with the support of an ecosystem of businesses and services.
A balanced life, 15 minutes away from the city.
Quinta da Freixeira matches the concept of "a city within 15 minutes", where the mix of services, commerce and housing makes it possible to respond locally to most daily requirements.
Implementation of 8 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals defined by the United Nations.
The Quinta da Freixeira development has been certified by the Portuguese LiderA System with a high performance category in sustainability (A+).
A strategic location in the Municipality of Loures and the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
Although included in the urban core of Lousa, Quinta da Freixeira allows a quick access to the A8-motorway as well as to other structuring motorways (such as the A9, A1, A5 and A2) which provide easy connections to tourist and economic attractions such as Lisbon, Cascais, Sintra, Óbidos and Ericeira.
Car access to Humberto Delgado airport takes 20min, and Lisbon city center can be reached in ca. 25min. Beatriz Ângelo Hospital and Loures Shopping Center are just 15 minutes away and Ericeira beach is 20 minutes away. There it a regular public transport line to the Lisbon city-center that stops in front of the development´s main entrance.
